Labradorite is mainly a dull, smoky gray mineral, but when light hits the surface, it causes a spectacular iridescence known as “labradorescence.” It causes a shifting interplay of blue, green, yellow, purple and gold caused by light bouncing back and forth among the layers within the same stone. This is most noticeable on polished surfaces. These stones are found mainly in Labrador, Canada and all over Scandinavia. This stone was highly prized in the Vendel and Viking ages.
